January Actions

Inspired by our guest speakers from LA Sanitation and the Solid Resources Citywide Recycling Division this month, here are three actions you can take to support LA's journey toward Zero Waste:

1. Compost Food Scraps!

Food waste currently contributes to about 30% of emissions, but this waste can be diverted and converted into a useful resource. Thanks to CA Senate Bill 1383, disposing of food scraps is going to get a lot easier. By this summer, the LA will be accepting food scraps in the Green Bin! In the meantime, you can start getting in the habit of collecting your kitchen scraps; LA Compost has several drop-off sites throughout the city. For more information on how to get started CLICK HERE.

2. Reduce Plastic

Plastic is everywhere and never really breaks down. It ends up in our oceans, landfills, and air, wreaking havoc on the planet. From the kitchen to the bathroom to the laundry room, there are tons of easy ways to reduce your plastic usage. Click Here for some ideas and plastic alternatives to get you started.

3. Support a Circular Economy:

We live in an economic system that is based on the consumption of finite resources. Our survival depends on moving to a circular economy. Instead of sending that broken vacuum or Ikea bookshelf to the landfill, try to fix it, repurpose it, recycle it, or bring it back to the company when possible. Click Here for more information about the Circular Economy.
