Current Legislative Action
CURRENT ACTION (as of 9/4/26):
We are nearing the end of the legislative session--16 of our top priority bills have been passed by both houses of the legislature and have been sent to the Governor for him to sign or veto. He has until September 30 to decide whether he will sign these bills into law, so now is the time for us to make our voice heard and tell him we want this climate legislation signed!
You can send a message to Governor Newsom in support of our endorsed bills at https://www.gov.ca.gov/contact/. It's an easy form to fill out, but you need to reset and start a new search for each of the bills. After you submit the form once or twice, the rest will be fast and easy!
Here are the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles Chapter priority bills that you can currently contact the governor to support:
AB 1577, Data Centers- Monthly Reporting
AB 2218, Water Policy: California Native American Tribes
AB 2313, Gas Distribution Service Line Replacements: Alternatives
SB 1359, Gas Transition Responsibility and Electrification Act
SB 222, Low Cost Heat Pump Installations
SB 58, Air Quality: Hydrogen Sulfide
SB 868, Portable Solar Generations Devices
SB 872, Climate Change Funding Priorities/Water
SB 894, Financing for Home Hardening
SB 905, Electrical Corporations: Non-bypassable Charge
SB 913, Resource Adequacy
SB 955, Beverage Containers: Supermarket Reverse Vending Machines
A few tips for using the Governor's contact form:
-
For 'Topic', select 'An Active Bill', and then 'Leave A Comment'
-
Using the drop-down menu to select a bill:
-
Type 'a' or 's' to jump to the section for the AB bills or the SB bills
-
Scroll down to the bill number you want to comment on. The bills are not in conventional numerical order; they are in order of the first digit, then the second digit, etc. So all the bills that start with a '1' are first, but 'AB 1234' would be before 'AB 178'.
-
Once you select a bill and click 'Next', you'll click on 'Pro' to show you are in favor of the bill. You can then type a message; it can be as short as, "Please sign AB 1577 into law!"
-
On the last page, enter your name and email address, then click submit.
-
To return to the beginning and comment on another bill, click 'Contact' in the top menu to start over and find the next bill.
