About the event
We're excited for our upcoming chapter meeting on October 13th, when we'll host a Q&A session with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Kolbert, widely recognized as one of the most influential voices on our changing environment.
As a staff writer for The New Yorker, Elizabeth Kolbert traveled from Alaska to Greenland visiting top scientists to get to the heart of the debate over global warming. The result was The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, a book about mass extinctions that wove intellectual and natural history with reporting in the field. This revolutionary work was a New York Times 2014 Top Ten Best Book of the Year and is number one on the Guardian's list of the 100 Best Nonfiction Books of all time, winning the Pulitzer Prize in 2015.
Now we have the opportunity to ask her about her latest book, Life on a Little-Known Planet: Dispatches from a Changing World, a collection of her most important pieces about climate change and the natural world. In this book, Elizabeth weaves her scientific explorations into a relatable and easy to understand peek into what the world is experiencing in terms of climate and global implications. She gives us a current glimpse into what some communities are doing to combat the warming of the planet, shares inspiring examples of countries working to remain carbon neutral in support of environmental protection, and exposes the threats of human impact on our climate.
Elizabeth Kolbert has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1999. Her essays have also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, and Mother Jones, and have been anthologized in The Best American Science and Nature Writing and The Best American Political Writing. She has authored numerous books and articles, winning an impressive variety of honors and awards.
Join us for our next chapter meeting to hear from a luminary in the climate movement on her latest work!
