Legislative Committee Meeting

The San Fernando Valley Climate Reality chapter's Legislative Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month, 7-8pm. All are welcome to join; no experience needed. If you want to start taking action on climate change, just hop on the Zoom here to listen, learn, and discuss!

Please join us this month to discuss:

• which of our endorsed bills will have passed the Appropriations Committee (by Aug 3) and are heading to a floor vote. While we have limited influence over the budget and appropriations process, once we know which bills have advanced out of the Appropriations Committee, we'll need to contact our legislators and encourage them to support those bills with an Aye vote.

• Prop 45, which will be on the ballot this November, creates new CEQA procedures for reviewing projects that are defined as “essential.” The proposition (1) tightens time limits for CEQA review, permits, and court challenges; (2) changes parts of the CEQA review process; and (3) changes the court’s review process for CEQA lawsuits. Prop 45's eligible projects will include: housing, water system, clean energy, health facilities, fire and police facilities, wildfire risk reduction, broadband internet, education facilities, and transportation.
